Cannabis Mitigation Grant Program Applications Due Oct. 31

Back in August the Humboldt County Supervisors finally approved the Cannabis Mitigation Grant Program that resulted from our 2019 legal settlement. This grant program designates funding from cannabis fines and penalties to be spent on sediment reduction projects on public and private roads serving cannabis operations in priority watersheds.

After some initial spending by public works, the fund this year has $600,000 remaining. For the next three years, the fund will be made up of 20% of fines and penalties collected from cannabis enforcement. Grant applications are due October 31, with public hearings held by the end of February each year.

If you are interested in a grant and haven’t already, please begin your application process now. We highly recommend consulting with planning staff to increase your chances of being selected for funding. Click here for the Grant Application and Plot Plan Checklist. Supervising Planner Michael Richardson is the primary contact for this program and can be reached at mrichardson@co.humboldt.ca.us or (707) 268-3723.
