The 30 x 30 program in California stems from a global initiative, the Campaign for Nature, which seeks to get a commitment from the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity to protect 30% of lands by 2030. Scientists agree that to prevent a mass extinction crisis and address climate change, we must conserve at least 30% of the planet by 2030. The California Natural Resources Agency is currently working on a plan to do just that, and we hope that this time their plans receive sustaining funding and the necessary follow-through to be effective.
